Foreigners who want an iPhone face severe limitations | Japan Probe

I have wanted an iphone for so long its not funny... basically it in Japan it would be a life saver GPS for when im lost, internet for when i need my email to get my new home address, Games for the long train ride to work, language translator etc etc etc.  BUT! Foreigners in Japan  cant just walk into softbank (formally Vodaphone) and purchase a iphone.

The main reason i dont have one now is because a iphone from Japan wont work in Australia... not unless i jailbreak it and even then i cant do any firmware upgrades after that.
